Block Division
Sealed blocks that move as one
Sealed blocks are two or three cars coupled as a unit. A pull or shove that would cut between them is refused, and a block is never humped or kicked.
4 hand-made yards, pars from 6 to 9 moves. Every yard has two challenge variants that open once it is finished at par.
The yards
| # | Yard | Par | The job |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Block Under One | 6 | The two Albany cars are sealed together: they move as one and fill the lead on their own. Get the Boston car off them first. Boston on 1, Albany on 2. |
| 2 | Decoy Block | 8 | A sealed Concord and Boston pair stands on the departure track, and the outbound wants Concord, Dover, Albany. The block leaves whole and the Concord car comes from elsewhere. |
| 3 | Blocks and the Hump | 7 | Two sealed pairs in a hump yard. Loose cars roll; a block never does, so it has to be shoved. Albany on 1, Boston on 2, Concord on 3. |
| 4 | Through the Block | 9 | The outbound wants Boston, Albany, Concord, Erie, and the Boston and Concord cars that are sealed together cannot stand that way. Work around the block with the loose cars. |
