Mountain Division
Heavy trains, a hump, placards that may not roll
The engine carries a tonnage rating. Loaded cars weigh more than empties, and the engine cannot move a cut heavier than its rating, so big pulls have to be broken up.
From the crest of the hump a whole cut rolls off one car at a time, each routed to a track as it goes, and the lot counts as a single move.
Placarded hazmat cars may not couple directly to the engine, may not be humped and may not be kicked, so they have to travel with a buffer car between them and the power.
5 hand-made yards, pars from 6 to 12 moves. Every yard has two challenge variants that open once it is finished at par.
The yards
| # | Yard | Par | The job |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Heavy Metal | 7 | Loaded hoppers weigh 110 tons and this engine is rated for 220. Watch the tonnage behind the engine. |
| 2 | Empties Back | 12 | Build the outbound from loads and empties, and block the Concord hopper. Empties are light; loads add up fast. |
| 3 | Over the Hump | 6 | A hump yard. Shove a cut over the crest and route each car as it rolls. One move, many cars. |
| 4 | Do Not Hump | 10 | Placarded tank cars may not be humped. They have to be shoved to rest the old way. |
| 5 | Mountain Shift | 9 | Everything at once: tonnage, the hump, placards, and an outbound to build on Track 1. Block the Erie cars on Track 2. |
